Protests and calls for legal action arose from affected Reels creators as these payouts were part of a new ad revenue sharing program for Reels videos that use music from Meta's library.

Some creators expected to earn tens of thousands of dollars per video but a supposed glitch in the system caused these earnings to be suddenly revised to hundreds of dollars, causing frustration and confusion among the creators.

Despite the protests, Meta has not responded to the situation publicly yet.
